It was one of those exquisitely smelling nights right after the first shower of monsoon… the night was beautiful until she entered this deserted quiet street, lit by nothing but this distant lantern…
She was alone, her hands tightly clenching her bag… her steps brisk with a kind of shiver in them… eyes to the ground..forehead wet with sweat not due to the post rain humidity but out of anxiety..
Was someone following her? Was the lane safe? She looked at the lantern again as if asking for strength… Strength to have faith in herself, faith in humanity!
In today’s times when women are increasingly objectified and exploited, it has become difficult for a woman to feel safe when she is out of her house, alone or in a group… this lantern signifies hope…hope for all of us to make this world a safer and better place!

Anisha, I didn’t just like your post, I loved it. Well done. I am glad I read it this morning of the Woman’s March on Washington. May women some day finally be safe.
